Access control architecture decision checklist
Use this checklist when evaluating physical access for a new site — whether you deploy OpenApp alone or alongside existing systems. The full guide is Choosing access control architecture; sector priorities are in Model by sector.
1. Scope and sector
Section titled “1. Scope and sector”- Who uses the site? (residents, staff, guests, couriers)
- How many doors, gates, and entry points?
- Is delegation required (apartments, sub-orgs, campus buildings)?
- Are time-bound guests core (hotel, STR, events)?
2. Existing hardware and software
Section titled “2. Existing hardware and software”- What must be kept (PalGate, HA relays, KNX, MQTT, Shelly)?
- Primary system of record (PMS, SIS, IWMS, VRMS)?
- Need virtual intercom without a legacy lobby panel?
3. Network and reliability
Section titled “3. Network and reliability”- Cloud vs on-prem reachability for integrations
- Fallback if cloud path fails — see Fallback and parallel-path security
4. Operations and compliance
Section titled “4. Operations and compliance”- Audit and incident review requirements
- Life-safety boundaries (OpenApp orchestrates; certified design is separate)
- API keys and role model for vendors / agents
5. Implementation path
Section titled “5. Implementation path”- Dashboard proof → Getting started
- Automation → Agents overview
- Guest / intercom tasks → Agent task guides
